Crazy clashing colours for the summer!
Have you seen the film True Romance? It is a classic. Definitely worth a watch if you haven't seen it yet!
It is the perfect summer film- So much fun to watch, lots of very cool retro clothes and Brad Pitt as the funniest stoner you have ever seen. Order in some pizza and check it out...

Hot Summer

| Dress AQ/AQ | Shoes JEFFREY CAMPBELL |

Today in Barcelona it is HOT HOT HOT!
My place has no air conditioning and one fan tirelessly attempting to rotate air around the renamed 'stuff box room,' At least it's trying.
At the moment I'm living with a Catalan music teacher/band member/opera singer/producer and his friend/lover/who knows? The music he makes I would try and describe but I haven't heard anything really like it before. If I had to try and describe what is currently pumping it's way down the corridor, I would say electro/opera/techno/pixie lord of the rings type remix. I asked him what type of music this is called. He said they haven't come up with a name for it. Told you, It's rather different!
I would be on the beach today but the entire City is either there or evacuated from the apparent apocalypse. The City Centre streets are very quiet today and I feel like a lazy day eating ice cream.
How are you spending your summer?

Let's go to the beach

I am lucky enough to live in a city with a beach. I love swimming in the sea (not too deep though- that's all a bit scary!)
Last year when I was living in Ibiza, me and my Fiance, both of us too hot, decided it would be a good idea to cool off in the ocean.
We were at the top of a beautiful rocky cliff with crystal clear waters, beautiful coral and brightly coloured fish below. After jumping in and seriously underestimating the tide, which was quickly dragging us out further and further, I started to panic.
Suddenly we were both sucked out into what I can only describe as an abyss.
The water suddenly went so deep it turned to pure darkness. There was this crackling noise that came with being out so deep. It was like the energy of the ocean floor popping to the surface. The energy of the water was overpowering and unexpected.
To make things worse eels started hitting into my legs- this sent me into a full blown scream-athon (at the time it was obviously a shark...) My Fiance (a lot braver than I) quickly stopped his uncontrollable laughter at my escapades. Panic set over him too, hey, maybe there is a shark? Maybe it wants to eat us?!
You have never seen two people swim faster or look more stupid in the space of five minutes. Trying to climb out of the water onto a jagged cliff face gracefully did not happen that day, neither has the urge to want to go deep sea swimming again.

Gypsy chic

Summer 2013 | effortless & edgy |

The other day as I was walking in the heat of Barcelona when I heard some music coming from the distance.
At first I thought it was a loud car stereo but as I became closer to the music, I realised it wasn't a car stereo at all.
Under the bridge below a Catalan gypsy community were in full musical swing. Two men strummed aggressively on their acoustic guitars, occasionally groaning some husky lyrics which resembled an echoing cry. Another man loudly tapped the plastic bucket he was using as a seat. Several of the women danced in the middle. They stomped the dry ground turning the air into a magical sunny spiral of dust as they swished their heavy skirts to the rhythm. The children sat back and observed smiling in wonder…

Watching the storm roll in

I live in Barcelona. I love the city, the energy, the colours, the happiness here.

Coming from England, a beautiful but very different place- it was a culture shock.
From the rolling green fields, the polite and prompt, the land of 'keep calm and carry on' to Spain, hot, temperamental and exciting.
I didn't plan it, it just kind of happened.

It's funny because at first I began to compare most places and things here to familiarities to make myself feel more comfortable. "This place reminds me of so and so…'" "This is like when we went to…." Suddenly it hits you. No. This isn't like here. It's completely different. It's an exciting experience. An adventure.

Now I have lived here for some time, I decided to stay at the edges of Barcelona in the mountains with some special people, we arrived home yesterday.
We rented a beautiful apartment at the top of the hills. It overlooked the entire city, in the distance you could see the sea. All the windows were floor to ceiling, overlooking the best view I have ever seen.
The best part was the large roof terrace where we spent most of our time. One of these special people is a yoga instructor , doing yoga in such a beautiful place was amazing.

One night when we were having a slow dinner on the terrace the sky began to rumble. A big storm was rolling in from over the sea.  You could see the rain falling on the city in the distance. The lightening crackled lighting up the entire sky, the thunder continuously let out low rumbles as it slowly approached us. Finally at around 2am the storm hit the terrace. We re-treated inside to watch for a while longer. Then finally when everyone began to tire, I went for a long hot bath, then read my new book tucked up in bed. It was the perfect short trip.
